Best water bubbles checked and compared
What is the best drinking bladder you can buy in 2020? Although this question is easy to ask, the actual process of finding, testing, comparing and selecting the best water bubble is not that simple.
Whether you want to hydrate your bladder while walking, running, cycling, hunting or camping, the process is always complex.
So we went through the market, tried 38 of the best brands and ended up in the top 11.
In our tests we looked at the volume of the tank, its density, accessibility and ease of cleaning, insulation, durability, safety and even the miniature parts such as the types of bitumen valves and the ease with which they can be sucked through the pipes.
To say that this list consists of the best reservoirs is an understatement. We don’t think there’s a better, more complete list. Let’s cut to the chase:

1. Large hydration bubble from source: Most balanced choice
The Widepac Source Hydration Blade is available in three different sizes of 1.5 l, 2 l and 3 l and is without doubt one of the best available.
It is made of cheap coextruded polyethylene and has a glass insert in the tank and pipe. This technology not only gives the water an unpleasant plastic taste, but also allows the tank to clean itself. In this way the build-up of biofilm and the growth of bacteria in the tank is effectively controlled.
Its rounded spiral bite valve is equipped with a safety shut-off mechanism that completely prevents leaks, even under pressure or during prolonged use. If you bite softly, you’ll have plenty of water in your mouth. A protective plate protects the bite valve from dust and other physical contamination.
Antimicrobial technology Grungeguards
Using an FDA-approved, EPA-registered antimicrobial agent, this technology effectively inhibits the growth of bacteria in both the tank and intake manifold. This active substance remains in the bladder for life. So, if your health is important to you (we think it should be), this is the tank designed for you.
Easy to maintain
The Widepac tank can be easily maintained using a number of functions. Firstly, it is self-cleaning thanks to the glass-like film, which is about 2000% smoother than standard TPU film (20 times smoother). This means that you can safely refill this tank again and again before you clean it for good. Your water will stay fresh for a few days.
Widepac’s wide hinged lid, manufactured in a user-friendly form, makes filling, ice insertion and cleaning easy. The high-quality sliding cover prevents possible leaks.
90° suction hose
The 94 cm long intake manifold has a remarkable 90° design that significantly reduces length compared to most other manifolds.
This not only creates a favourable drinking angle, but also eliminates the excess tube around the breast. Nobody wants to be overloaded.
The advantages of
- Free of BFA, BFS and phthalates.
- Grunge-Guard technology and glass foil keep your water sterile and safe to drink.
- Rigid, leakproof.
- No smell or taste is added to the water.
- Easy to use.
- The suction valve is too big.
- We tend to assume that the suspension point on the upper carriage was not correctly positioned.
The source video is beautifully constructed and contains almost everything you want to see in your bladder. It does not leak, is easy to maintain and clean, easy to transport and has excellent safety features. Except for a few failures, it’s almost the perfect bubble for humidification.

2. Registered Streamer 2.0 Hydration bubble: The best choices
The Deuter Streamer is made of thick polyethylene and the 2 and 3 litre air humidification blowers of the Deuter Streamer provide an odourless stream that keeps you hydrated for more than two years. Today, we all hate the bad taste of water stored in these polyurethane humidification bubbles.
Connection of the base line
One of the most striking features of this humidification blower is the arrangement of a quick coupling for the hose. Directly at the base of the bladder, the shortcut ensures a continuous flow of water until the bladder is almost empty. This is different from most other humidification blowers, where the hose connection is about a third of the way from the base.
Valve and plug
The bite valve is almost perfectly dimensioned and has a close-fitting, removable cover to keep dust and other contaminants out. This keeps your water sterile and opens the valve only when you want to drink water. The swivel stop valve in combination with the sealing plug ensures that the nozzle is completely leak free.
Even then, some people hate the fact that every time they want to swallow from their bladder, they have to remove the cap from a piece of the valve. I’m not that kind of person, because I care more about my health than my comfort.
Full width opening
Easy cleaning and trouble-free refilling is made possible by the hinged locking mechanism of the Deuter Hydration Tank, which opens over the entire width. It can be easily cleaned and dried.
Today, some might think that fully opening the bandwidth is an error that is likely to lead to leaks. But far away! The Deuter has a folding clasp which is covered by a sliding plastic clip to ensure a good seal. This closure is absolutely airtight and frankly you will never find a better type of closure.
The advantages of
- There’s no smell in the water.
- The wide opening makes cleaning and drying easier.
- Durable (thick polyethylene).
- Easy to use.
- Due to the simple arrangement of the hose connection, it is also suitable for small amounts of water.
- Completely airtight.
- The fact that you have to open the lid of the bite valve every time you want to drink water makes it a bit cumbersome.
- The plastic pliers are not of the best quality.
If you are looking for a quality bell that has been on the market for a long time and has proven itself, then the Deuter bell for humidification is the ideal choice for you. No leaks, no bad smells, no disappointments.

3. Gregory Mountain Hydration Leaf: Blow with best hydration efficiency
Grigoriy’s water tank is the absolute winner when it comes to the 2 and 3 litre hydration bubbles. It is the only tank that works like a soft bladder, but it cleans, fills and dries even better than a bottle of water.
First and foremost, it is the product of a well-known manufacturer of high quality outdoor products – Gregory Mountain. The water bubble of this brand can only be described as first class.
Made of high quality metallocene polyethylene without benzene, the power of Gregory Gore is visible. It’s one of those bubbles that will serve you for at least a few years before you start looking again. Robust and non-abrasive seams, soft but non-abrasive surfaces, flexible and scratch-resistant tubes – all characteristics of a product of exceptional quality.
As with the source tank mentioned above, the inner surface of this air bubble is treated with an antimicrobial agent to remove mould and bacteria.
Innovative 3D design
I want you to understand better.
This air bubble is designed in such a way that the application surfaces do not touch each other. The 3D design gives it the appearance of an ordinary water bottle, which remains flexible thanks to the typical bubble material for humidification.
You will enjoy this project for two reasons:
Firstly, the fact that the surfaces are separated from each other and not in direct contact with each other, so that there are no bags of water when the bladder is emptied. This allows the bladder to dry sufficiently without any special interventions, which helps in the fight against fungi and bacteria.
Secondly, the design of this bladder is such that the seat on the back is flat and the opposite side is raised to give it a typical 3D shape. Therefore, you will appreciate the comfort of this bladder on your back, giving you much-needed mobility during this hike.
And the usefulness of the design doesn’t stop there:
It is equipped with a full-length partition wall that divides the bladder into two chambers so that less sludge enters the tank when cycling or walking.
In addition, the integrated QuickDry suspension hook allows the tank to be stored quickly and easily and the device to be hung upside down for drying.
Easy to use
Mount Gregory has one of the most beautiful appetizers. It is a reversing valve with a unique design that distinguishes itself from all others on the market. You will be particularly impressed by the ease with which the valve can be operated with a simple thumb press.
And oh my God, isn’t it amazing how the water flows! This can be done with a simple press that requires neither the effort of breaking the nuts nor the manual suction.
However, the bite valve mentioned by the manufacturer DryLock is quite tight, which means you don’t have to suck on it if you don’t want to.
The Easy-Grip rubber top hole, in combination with the included handle, ensures quick and easy filling.
Works with almost all Gregorybackpacks
The reservoir is compatible with almost all Gregory backpacks and can be easily attached to the bag cover thanks to the SpeedClip fastening system, which has a lock and click system.
Again, nothing is stopping you from trying it with a camel mule or other wetting backpack.
The advantages of
- Without BPA or PVC, the water does not give off any aromas or odours.
- Innovative 3D design and integrated QuickDry suspension hook for faster drying.
- The total length of the fence prevents the track from moving unnecessarily.
- The Easy Grip filling opening allows quick and easy filling.
- The SpeedClip installation system eliminates the problems associated with installing (or removing) a tank in a backpack.
- Special cleaning sets are required for the seams.
- The nozzle has no dust cap.
Although Grigor’s tank has only been on the market for a short time, it proves at all costs that it is a worthy competitor. Whether it is a unique eccentric design or a product of a well-known brand, this tank proves what it is made of. Most hydration bubbles with these properties cost you a fortune, but that’s not the case. In general, it is one of the best water bubbles and is ideal for every walker, cyclist, backpacker and traveller.
4. Platypus Large tank with zipper: The most reliable choice
The Low Profile Big Zip tank has long proven its quality and reliability. The Big Zip Hydration Bladder for Platypus, with a large zipper, is one of the few flat bladders that easily fits into any backpack or package. It is available in three different sizes: 1.5 l, 2 l and 3 l. A variety of sizes allows users to choose a size suitable for tank sleeves and adventures.
The Platypus Big Zip tank is made of a combination of polyethylene and polyurethane and is one of the few with an emphasis on health. It does not contain BFA, SFO or phthalates. It also has a built-in silver ion that protects against mould and bacterial contamination.
While polyurethane bubbles tend to add a plastic flavor to your water, Big Zip uses a smart combination of polyethylene to ensure that no flavor is added to your water. As you may remember, polyethylene is popular with Source Bladder blowers because of its strength, flexibility and taste. These characteristics are well represented in the bladder of the platypus Big Zip Hydration.
Platypus Big Zip is available in a transparent colour. This way you can see what your water looks like, which eliminates the possibility of dirty water consumption.
Like the many water bubbles that open across the entire width of the platypus reservoir, it has a wide opening. This means that filling, cleaning and drying can be carried out easily. The convenient clamp on one side of the tank, designed for use during refuelling, is a very useful feature that allows one hand to be used during refuelling. We strongly depend on these factors to determine the usefulness of a hydration bladder.
The sliding zipper ensures a secure grip, so there is no leakage of any kind. The only thing we didn’t like about the plastic clip is that the part that should carry the bladder looks pretty thin and will probably give in eventually.
The garden hose can easily be disconnected from the tank using a quick coupling. This means that the compatibility of the parts, the flexibility in the processing and care of your laundry and the fact that a damaged part will not render your tank unusable are all features of this particular bladder that are worth buying. Although the tube is not insulated, it can easily be replaced by a tube insulated with the same fitting.
The bite valve has proven to be quite reliable in terms of water consumption and water tightness. The Hilo self-sealing bite valve has a unique design that completely seals water to prevent leaks. Although this is not our preferred type, the switch lock on the valve of this tank works effectively. Just turn it to open or close the valve.
The advantages of
- BFA, BFS and phthalate free.
- The function of the silver ion, which protects them against bacteria and fungi.
- No taste; no foreign aromas are added to the water.
- Durable and extremely reliable.
- Easy to use, easy to clean and dry.
- The pipe is not insulated.
- Anti-slip handle on the terminal lock.
- Limited to one colour choice.
Like a water bubble, which attaches great importance to quality and safety, the Big Zip platypus will cost you every penny of your money. You can choose one of three options according to your needs.
Even in this case, improved handling and insulation can significantly increase the value of the Platypus Big Zip tank.
5. CamelBuck antidote tank: Most reliable selection
If nothing else, you should choose this 3-liter (100-ounce) hydration tank for its reliability. Made of resistant polyurethane and introduced on the market a few decades ago, this air bubble for humidification has proven itself over the years. Free of BPA and BPS, this water bubble has retained its good qualities and positive reputation. CamelBak has carefully weighed up a number of quality enhancing properties and you only get a proven humidification system.
Given the high quality and the improvements this hydration bubble has undergone over the years, its price is quite reasonable. It may not be as accessible as the two above, but as you can imagine, CamelBak is unsurpassed in many ways. In the absence of a better description, CamelBak is a top quality water bubble that lives up to its promises at all costs.
In addition, the Camelbak anti-toxic water bubble comes with a limited lifetime warranty that increases its long-term value.
Cool and the latest features
Over time, CamelBak has modified its hydration bubbles in response to feedback from users around the world. The CamelBak antidote tank is the youngest of their tanks made many years ago.
Compared to the previous versions, the new antidote has a number of performance improvements that make it superior to its predecessors in many ways. The wider mouth opening and large handle make filling and cleaning easy. Thanks to the simple hose connection, the water can be completely drained out of the tank.
The two water chambers are a clever feature that not only loads the bladder in a thin-profile tank, but also reduces the accumulation of water inside. Other additional features include a removable hose, integrated tilt arms for the dryer and the Quick-Link system, which makes it easy to change the tank.
Another feature that has been improved is the bite valve. Medium size, bite flap not too small and not too big. Unlike the old CamelBak models, the bite valve of the new model is stronger and not easy to remove. This avoided the discomfort of the bladder due to this point.
Built as a thin reservoir, CamelBak has the supernatural ability to turn any backpack into a humidification backpack. This means that even with a normal backpack, you can carry your CamelBak antidote tank without worrying about space or moisture in your backpack.
The sealed filling opening is not only airtight, but also reduces weight. The hydration bladder weighs 7 ounces, which is quite easy.
The advantages of
- Easy to fill and refill.
- It has a large hole for the screws.
- It has a medium sized bite valve, which is ideal for most users.
- It has a narrow profile, making it compatible with different backpacks and humidification bags.
- It has a central zipper, which prevents mixing of water.
- He has stood the test of time while maintaining a good reputation. Future improvements are credible at all costs.
- It is difficult to clean and special bladder cleaning kits with hydration may be required.
- In general, it is more difficult to fill the net.
- In polyurethane, water tastes like plastic. Over time, however, it will dissolve.
The antidote is the bladder, which many people choose because CamelBak has been a major player in the bladder market for some time now. The antidote is much appreciated and appreciated. It has captured the hearts of tourists, walkers, runners and all other outdoor enthusiasts.
With the exception of the original taste of the plastic, we recommend it for all aspects.
6. Source WXP Tactical Tank 3 Liter Hydration Tank: Most user-friendly selection
My favourite choice, WXP, offers a number of interesting features for anyone who knows what to look for in a drinking bladder.
Firstly, this hydration bladder is supplied in 2-litre and 3-litre versions with a combination of a screw cap and a tiltable version for opening and closing. These two bolts are waterproof and airtight. Because this feature meets both preferences, WXP has become so popular that it has become a favourite of a large group of hikers and outdoor enthusiasts.
Easy to fill and clean
The hinged lid allows this tank to be opened wide for easy cleaning, filling and insertion of ice. And if you prefer only water in your hydration bladder, you can quickly recharge the WXP with the unscrewable lid.
High quality construction
This powerful humidification tank is made of high quality coextruded polyethylene, a material that not only requires little maintenance but also contains no chemicals or toxins.
In the tank and the pipe there is a glass lining, which plays a crucial role as a mechanism to prevent the build-up of biofilm, which in turn prevents the growth of bacteria in the tank. Moreover, this substrate prevents the plastic taste of the water stored in the warehouse from developing.
WXP uses the Grunge Guard antimicrobial technology that prevents bacteria and other micro-organisms from growing. This technology includes an antibacterial agent that is permanently integrated into the inner walls of the tank and pipes to ensure the life of the hydration system.
Other universal specifications
Although the WXP does not use the best technology, it insulates its wire perfectly. The insulation mechanism consists of a cloth that collects ultraviolet rays and keeps the water cool to a certain extent for a reasonable period of time.
Another feature WXP is proud of is the patented Storm Push and Pull technology for the suction valve. You suck it out and the water in your mouth has a flow rate 25% higher than most other bubbles. You press it and the valve closes. This technology is a gem in two subtle ways. First of all, you should never be afraid of losing the valve, because it cannot be completely released when you pull the valve. Secondly, the fact that the valve remains closed and you only open it when you need to fetch water means that your water remains sterile and uncontaminated.
In general, it is an incredible reservoir that offers a wide range of features to improve performance. From antimicrobial technology to hermetic design, cold weaving, open access and a tasteless system, there is so much to enjoy in this tank. It is also easy to clean and maintain. Simply rinse with water and hang to dry in the open air according to the methods indicated below.
Cave: Belt drying WXP
Initially we had problems drying the WXP in the air, because it is almost impossible to separate the tasty sides when it is empty. The appetite side tends to stick and retain some moisture.
A few tips from years of experience with hydration bubbles, however, have proved useful.
The first thing you have to do is make it into a bottle or an empty glass of water.
The second is to hang it on the pipe fitting and put a small dry kitchen towel on it.
During the third burglary, the hose is bent into a spiral and inserted into the bladder to keep it open.
The advantages of
- It is characterised by the presence of screw caps and slide locking mechanisms, both of which are hermetically sealed.
- High quality construction
- Integrated antimicrobial technology
- Self-cleaning mechanism
- Keeps the water cool for a long time
- Somehow it’s too high, so it’s a little uncomfortable in most backpacks for moistening.
- It takes a few shakes to keep them open during the drying process. Fortunately, these burglaries are easy to learn and carry out.
All in all, it’s a good choice for a heavy tank. From performance to design features, you pay less for more. Three litres of water is something, and the water temperature remains under control for at least four hours. The quality of the materials used to build the tank is incredible. It’s completely sealed.

7. Tank for drainage of derelict land: Improved bladder hydration for hunting
The heathlands developed especially for hunters are both comfortable and reliable. This impressive product is the result of a collaboration between Hydrapak™ and Badlands, two of the most popular innovators in the field of outdoor products.
It is strong, waterproof, practical and quieter than any other container.
The strips are made of thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) with a thickness of 0.25 mm and are available in 3 different sizes of 1L, 2L and 3L and in rectangular and square shapes. Wasteland’s famous Unconditional Lifetime Warranty increases its value over its lifetime and there’s nothing better than what you could wish for.
Easy to clean
As one of the few water bubbles that turn from the inside out, wastelands are easy to clean and dry. The wide opening of the slide across the full width allows wide access to the interior for deep cleaning. If the bubble is turned from the inside out, it is and therefore dishwasher safe ().
Excellent pipe and valve designs
Robust yet light and of perfect length. The Badlands TPU hose is great in two ways. First, the Plug-N-Play™ hose connector makes it easy to connect and disconnect the hose from the tank. This not only increases the flexibility of the bladder during cleaning, but also makes it easier to fill the bladder.
Secondly, the tube has a built-in foam insulation mechanism that keeps the cold water in the tube longer. If you have ever taken a sip of hot water while heating the water, you know why Hydrafusion™ insulation technology is an interesting feature of this tank’s drinking tube.
The Elite Surge Valve allows water to flow into your mouth through simple suction. A free-hanging dust cap has been installed to keep the lung valve sterile.
The advantages of
- Available in different shapes and sizes.
- Advanced technology used in the production of bladder and tube.
- From the inside out, easy to clean, dishwasher safe.
- An unrivalled lifetime warranty.
- The transparent hose will not let you through, which can be dangerous for your health if moulds develop. You should clean the tube regularly every time you wash your bladder to prevent this from happening.
- A little gummy aroma in the water, which disappears with time.
Have you searched in vain for the best water bubble to rinse? The air bubble to humidify the soil has been carefully designed to meet your needs. It is a quality product that we can forge with confidence.
8th RSM camel water bag: Peak value of the motorhome
My experience has taught me that walking and cycling, backpacking and especially camping requires more than just quenching one’s thirst. So it is always clear that you need more water than a normal bottle of water can hold. Let’s take a look at the features that make the MSR Dromedaris Bag the best camping bladder moisturizer.
Universal open water bag
MSR produces 2l, 4l, 6l and 10l camel bags. The large bag can hold more water and prevents travellers and tourists from having to go to a water source when they need it. The bag has a lid that reliably prevents water spillage; there is a wide opening for easy filling or topping up. And if you thought your drinking didn’t count, you’re unfortunately mistaken. This water pack comes with a removable nozzle that can be easily pulled out if necessary.
Foldable and easy to carry
Space is an essential factor for tourists, hikers and all other adventurers. This water package is foldable, so space and storage is no problem. Fold the camel bag with water and put it in a travel bag or backpack and fill it with water only when needed.
It is also important to note that the foldable water bag comes with closures and straps for easy storage and hanging when needed.
The advantages of
- Durable and resistant.
- Easy to store and transport.
- Great versatility and comfort in different situations.
- It is available in different qualities.
- Ergonomic and comfortable handle.
- It’s a bit heavy, especially when it’s filled with water.
The camel water bag is handy if you need a larger, portable water container for hiking or camping. With this MSR product you get water when you need it. I find this water bag easy to use. The three-in-one lid ensures unimaginable efficiency when filling, pouring and drinking.
9. Hydration rate 1.5l Hydration reservoir: the strongest hydration bubble
We loved the Hydrapack Reservoir. Then came their new Hydrapak Velocity with incredibly innovative features. And we couldn’t get around replacing the old model with a new, great one. Hydrapak Velocity, which is not 100% BOD and PVC, does not add any harmful chemicals and does not cause any foreign flavour to your water.
Hydrapak uses thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU), high density polyethylene (HDPE) and silicone, which is probably the largest amount of material in a single bubble for hydration. This combination makes Hydrapak Velocity elastic and effectively resistant to wear and tear caused by grease, oil and abrasion. But, as you will soon discover, that’s not all this innovative new product has to offer in the world of hydration.
For us, the Hydrapak Velocity would be the ideal air bubble for humidification, except that it is limited to its small capacity of 1.5 litres.
Easy to clean and dry
This bell with the lightning opens wide and turns from the inside out. This means you can easily clean all corners to remove dirt and germs. Remarkably, this water bubble can be safely washed in the dishwasher.
To dry them, simply turn the bubble from the inside out and hang it on the outside.
The 36-inch HydraFlex garden hose does not bend and ensures a constant flow of water. The unique Blaster™ valve, which is equipped with a locking mechanism, also ensures sufficient flow satisfaction. The automatic valve seal after each throat is a feature that most of us have fallen in love with.
With a clean tube you can see through the shapes and measure the degree of colonization. This means that every part of the hose can be easily cleaned to eliminate any health risk.
The Plug-N-Play™ bladder quick disconnect system has an automatic shut-off valve to prevent leaks when the hose is disconnected from the bladder. You understand that this shortcut system allows you to fill or clean your bladder.
Other impressive features
Most of our testers found the blue color of the Malibu tank impressive. However, we think a variety of colours would be a good idea.
The ergonomic design of the upper slide is smooth and tightly closed so that no leaks can occur. It has no sharp edges that could form an obstacle.
The weight of 4.2 ounces makes it one of the lightest tanks for outdoor use.
Its availability, in combination with the Hydrapak Beyond Lifetime warranty, which provides for replacement or repair of the tank in the event of a malfunction, is the only thing you should do to try this new but incredible product.
The advantages of
- Easy to clean and dry.
- Durability thanks to the high-quality materials used in the construction.
- Affordable with lifetime warranty
- Compared to most other models this is cheaper.
- Volume limited to only 1.5 litres
- Limited to one colour.
As a newcomer to the market, Hydrapak Velocity has almost all the innovative properties you would expect from a hydration system. If you don’t mind using a 1.5 litre container, this is the best water bubble for you. It is lightweight and can be used for skiing, cycling, jogging, trekking, hiking and other outdoor adventures.
10. Geigerrig hydration motor: Most universal bladder
Because it is the only hydration bladder we have tested under pressure, the Geigerrig is the most effective and least reliable. The most striking (and truly innovative) element is the printing system. It has an elliptical air pump, similar to those in good old school blood pressure monitors. This pump is connected to the inner tube of the tank.
As it pumps, it fills the room with air and creates pressure that causes the water to drain through the suction hose. Unlike other water bubbles, which have to be sucked up in the mouth and filled with water, the Geigerrig takes care of the pressing.
Geigerrig was originally designed for outdoor adventurers. Its popularity over the years, however, has proven that everyone – from technicians to outdoor enthusiasts – really appreciates it.
Geigerrig is completely waterproof, made of durable TPU and contains no BPA. It is a Zip Drive that can be opened like a bag across its entire width and is available in three different 1.5L, 2L and 3L containers.
Thanks to the pressure system, the Geigerrig water bubble has many functions and uses. In this system it has gone from an extraordinary thirst-quencher to a universal water system.
The water jet allows you to clean your pet, share the water with your roommates, cool down, rinse cups and plates and wash the dirt from your equipment before hiding it in the car. One of our team members thought that the bubble would also be an ideal sprinkler for watering the flowers in the house.
It is remarkable that Geigerrig can be used with a water filter if you do not trust your water source. Connect one end of the filter to a hose and the other to the bladder neck. The pressure pushes the water through the filter and hose to the mouth. In particular, the Aquamira Frontier Max filter is the most compatible filter for use with the Geigerrig hydration system.
As one of the few humidification bubbles to be turned from the inside, the Geigerrig is dishwasher safe. Just turn it from the inside out and put it on the dishwasher hanger.
It is just as easy to dry as an upside-down tank with all surfaces exposed to air.
All this is possible because the bladder itself is separated from the pipe by a simple separation system.
Easy to fill and refill
Thanks to the bag-shaped opening across the entire width, the Geigerrig can be filled from virtually any water source. It is one of those bubbles that can easily be filled with a tap, a cup or even a moving jet.
The advantages of
- Has many innovative applications.
- He’s got a slim profile.
- To a pressure system.
- It is easy to fill and refill.
- Can be safely used in the dishwasher.
- It’s expensive.
- He’s having a little trouble learning.
- Pumping at too high a pressure can damage it.
We love the Geigerrig hydration engine because of its versatility and creativity. Every day the machine finds new applications: from animal care to cleaning and showering. This product was originally intended only for botanists, but recent data suggests the contrary, and it has been shown that its use goes beyond the technically obsessed user on the street.

Selection of the best hydration bladder for walking: 11 Important factors
Outdoor activities are becoming more and more popular for many people all over the world. Walking, hiking, mountain climbing, cycling, camping and hunting are just a few of the many outdoor activities in which modern man enthusiastically participates. However, some of these activities cannot be mentioned without recalling the word hydration. Whether it’s winter or summer, hydrating your skin while traveling outdoors is a must and means staying alive and enjoying your journey to the fullest. It is therefore not surprising that in recent years the hydration bubbles have taken over the open world.
Having become popular since the early 1990s and first appeared among cyclists, drinking bladders have undoubtedly become a necessity for outdoor excursions. When they were first put on the market, they were sold and bought in drink bags, which made it possible to realize that this is a very practical way to hydrate cyclists, walkers, tourists, hikers and other athletes. Thanks to this opening, backpacks are compatible with the bladder, either in the form of a small opening through which the drinking tube passes, or in the form of multi-compartments through which the drinking tube is inserted into the shoulder straps.
The following should be taken into account when purchasing bubbles for humidification:
1. Building materials
The material of the hydration bladder determines its durability, how it should be cleaned and whether or not the water tastes like plastic. TPU and polyethylene are the most commonly used materials in the construction of hydration bladders.
In general, TPU bubbles have an original plastic taste. However, it should be noted that this plastic taste disappears over time.
Polyethylene packaging, on the other hand, does not make the water taste like plastic. They are sufficiently durable and reliable.
Some hydration bladders use a combination of different materials that have been used in the past. Hydrapak Velocity, for example, uses TPU, HDPE and silicones. This combination contributes to certain properties of the hydration bladder, such as elasticity, strength and resistance to the elements.
You should carefully examine the materials used in the construction of the tank to determine if they are suitable for you.
2. Size and compatibility
It is extremely important that you choose a bladder that fits well in your backpack. Finished air bubbles for humidification generally have the same shape, but with small variations. Hydration bubbles are available in different capacities – from one to three litres.
It is advisable to use a hydration bladder with a capacity of 3 liters instead of 1 liter and 2 liters, because the capacity has been increased despite slight price fluctuations. However, depending on the situation, you can fill the bladder partially or up to the edges. It is not recommended to use a 3-litre bladder if the bladder in the backpack is small.
In general, you should drink between 17 and 25 ounces of water per hour. Normally the consumption level under load is higher. Other variables, such as temperature and humidity, will also vary the demand for water. As a general rule: Take water if you’re thirsty.
Depending on the above and how you plan your trip, you can easily choose the size of the bubble.
Since a large bladder is recommended, this is not always the best choice for you. As you already know, water is heavy, but you still need to know how much capacity you need for your trip. You also have to decide if you want to refuel on the way and how often. If you buy a water bubble, consider the following before making your choice.
0.5 to 2 litres. Each bubble in this category is ideal for light expeditions such as running, day walks, skiing, hiking and snowboarding. Most offer a commendable balance between slope and low weight on one side and sufficient water for situations where water needs to be replenished regularly, such as cycling, running and walking over short distances on the other side. Lighter bubbles are also available for children.
3 Liter. Have you ever had an adventure in a place where you’re not sure of the water source but still can’t access the water filter in your backpack? In this case, you need large bulbs that are sufficient for the duration of your activity. Generally, large hydration bubbles are ideal for long-distance hikes, walks and hikes. The volume of 3 liters is favorite because you have the capacity to carry a large or small amount of water.
More than 3 litres. When this capacity is exceeded, most reservoirs stop being hydration bubbles and turn into bags of water. An example is the MSR camel water bag with a capacity of 4, 6 and 10 litres. Usually these are the best tanks for camping. They guarantee that you will have enough water for the duration of your trip, with the possibility of topping up with water if your trip takes longer.
3. Bubble profile
The design of the bubble determines its profile. To remove the bubble profile, look at the dimensions when it is empty and when it is full.
Smaller bubbles usually have a zipper between their application walls. This not only reduces the amount of water it contains, but also makes it easily compatible with most backpacks for moistening.
However, some tanks are supplied with built-in sleeves. In some cases, such a sleeve can act as an insulating mechanism, as in the case of the Crystal Creek reservoir. In most cases, however, the cuff increases the compatibility of the reservoir with the backpack. If you look at the sleeve, you can see how much the width or narrowness of the tank helps you make your choice.
4. Hydration Inlet: Zip-Top, Fold-Top or screw top?
Your charging source, the ease of opening and closing, and the density are some of the factors that should determine the type of opening. The three discovery options are different under different circumstances:
- blisters have a comb and a groove on the attractive sides of the zipper. The two sides of the zipper are joined together and then the zipper is moved to strengthen the closure. These humidification bubbles are generally waterproof, easy to brush and dry due to their full opening on the profile. They can easily be filled from leaking water sources such as taps and low-flowing streams.
Although we noticed in the above prices that the zipper tanks are not easy to open because it took time to separate the zippers.
- The tanks are folded from above, after which the cap is extended to keep the part folded. These tanks were the easiest to open and close.
On some models, such as the Deuter Streamer, the top closure also serves as a handle because it has a curved space for the hand or to hang up.
Most collapsible tanks, such as Bronbells, tilt from the inside out. So they are easy to clean and dry by hand or in the dishwasher. Without a doubt, the folding tanks were the favourites of most members of our team.
- Bubbles with screw cap require the cap to be turned to open or close. In most cases they are closed by a clockwise movement and opened by a counterclockwise movement. Unlike water bubbles with a screw cap, bubbles with a screw cap open or closed, but not as long as those with a zipper.
The three types of tanks with screw caps are the most difficult to clean. Most of them allow limited access to their deepest corners, which is conducive to the growth of fungi and other microorganisms.
Screw cap tanks are the only ones that can be filled to the brim. Unlike tanks with zippers and gate valves, which require a sealing chamber to prevent spillage, bubbles can be completely filled with a screw cap and the cap is screwed on without spilling or leaking. However, we have found that most drums with threaded plugs have a poorer seal, especially if some pressure is applied.
It should be noted that in the most endangered reservoirs there is currently a tendency to combine certain opening and closing mechanisms in their reservoirs. For example, the WXP tank from Source Tactical combines a sliding cover with a threaded cover. This makes them more versatile than conventional tanks, which only use one close-open mechanism.
Since most people want to use their tanks in different environments and weather conditions, such combinations become a necessity rather than a luxury.
In summer you could think of hiding some ice cubes in the bubble. This is easy and really possible thanks to the wider opening slider. Most tanks with screw caps, especially those with small caps, will prove to be a bottleneck in such an experiment.
5. Bite Valve Size and Mounting
The size of the valve determines how easy or difficult it is to extract water from the hose. Some bite valves are bigger, some smaller. In general, we have found that large caustic valves have difficulty absorbing water when pressureless bladders are used. The small valves were sufficient, but they did not provide enough water supply to satisfy you. Therefore, medium beaks were the best option.
The three shut-off mechanisms are mainly intended for bit valves: the rotary valve, the switching valve and the pressure valve, as shown in the figure below.
Mechanisms for turning, switching and locking the valve by means of the pressure valve or the ejection valve
The closing mechanism we prefer is the pressure lock, as used for example in the hydration source reservoirs. These locking mechanisms are easy to use and keep your hands free.
The other two locking mechanisms are a switch and a rotary latch valve. It is simpler and easier to operate locks than to change them. Castle Twist is more delicate and needs people to be more careful.
6. Easy to use
The air bubble is a necessary external device, but it becomes useless if it is not easily accessible. Ease of use depends largely on the type and size of the mouthpiece and the type of drinking mechanism. The correct nozzle must not be too big or too small. Large tips are more difficult to control, while small tips are more difficult to use.
The locking and drinking mechanism is another aspect that determines how easy it is to use your bladder. In many cases, the mechanism consists of gently biting the valve and sucking it out. It is worth mentioning that biting and sucking does not have to cost a lot of energy. We therefore strongly recommend the use of medium sized valves, as they ensure a light and even water flow during suction. Suction, however, is not a universal technology for all valves, as some only need a bite to let water escape.
7. Easy cleaning
No matter how smooth the bladder is, the smartest solution is without doubt a bladder that hydrates while being easy to clean and maintain. Without proper cleaning and care, the bladder can become a habitat and breeding ground for fungi and bacteria. If this happens, it will be dangerous for your health.
Most humidification bubbles have hidden areas that are difficult to clean and dry. These hard-to-reach places are often the cause of harmful bacteria and fungi. The hydration bladder, which is used exclusively for water supply, does not need to be cleaned often. However, if you use your bladder to carry sugar and energy drinks, you have to clean it every time you use it. Bubble cleaning should focus on three main areas: Hose, bladder and mouthpiece.
When you buy a bladder, remember how easy or difficult it is to clean it. Look for a wide mouth or bladder with a zipper so you can easily insert the brush or turn the bladder around. Make sure you can easily remove the hose and mouthpiece. Many blowers are equipped with a quick release mechanism to disconnect the tube from the nozzle. Without the quick-release function it will be difficult to clean the hose. Normally, flip-flop bubbles, which can easily be turned over and put in the dishwasher, are easier to clean in the dishwasher.
8. Easy to fill and refill
Many tourists think that filling and charging hydration bubbles is stressful. It is therefore important to choose a bladder that is easy to fill and generally easy to handle. Although widespread bubbles are easier to fill, closing them is usually not easy. As with the mouthpiece, it is advisable to choose a bladder with a central hole in the mouth. This ensures balance when filling, closing and cleaning the bladder.
9. Pressureless vs.Pressureless
The pressurized water blower has two chambers – water and air. Use the supplied pump to inflate the inner tube to create pressure. The pressure forces the water out of the bite valve without suction.
The question of which type of bladder to buy – under pressure or not – needs to be answered according to your specific needs. Pressure booster systems are easier to use and offer this luxury.
10. Hose compatibility
Quick connector system for connecting and disconnecting the suction hose to the bladder.
If you are considering a purchase, make sure your bladder has a quick release mechanism in the upright position. Most humidification hoses are connected to the bladder by a quick-release mechanism that allows flexible filling and cleaning of the bladder. In addition, you are free to change the pipe of your choice (taking into account the insulation).
11. Winter overview
If the temperature falls below freezing point, it is possible that the water in the tube and in the nozzle will freeze to ice.
It is desirable that the water returns to the main bubble in winter. This allows the hose to be cleaned after each sip so that nothing can freeze.
There are also winter sets that cover the neoprene tube, such as in the Badlands Hydration Reservoir. Winter kits are designed to isolate the pipe and prevent the water from freezing inside.
An insulating cover to cover the tank adds features that make the bubble suitable for winter use.
Blow hygiene 101: Understanding hydration bubbles
Hydration bubbles, also called water bubbles or dampening reservoirs, are considered mandatory equipment for hikers and other outdoor adventurers. Modern wetting bladders, made from the softest materials such as polyethylene and TPU, are compatible with most travel rucksacks and therefore more comfortable than traditional water bottles.
Benefits of Hydration Bubbles over conventional water bottles
- Unlike water bottles, which are usually made of aluminium, glass or plastic, water bubbles are made of flexible materials, making them lighter and at the same time resistant to large amounts of water.
- Hydration bubbles can be sealed, making them easier to transport. Water bottles cannot be closed and need more space, which can be difficult to access.
- Another interesting feature of the hydration bubbles is that they are sealed between the tube and the bag. This feature makes them safer than conventional water bottles.
- Hydration bladders are more comfortable because most of them have straws or tubes, leaving their hands free and are ideal for active outdoor sports such as running, walking, cycling, etc.
- Unlike bottled water, most air bubbles use the latest technology, allowing the use of built-in water purifiers, filters and tubes or straws for easy and convenient application.
- The large hydration bubbles (6 to 10 litres) are suitable for camping due to their large capacity.
It is important to note that although hydration bubbles have most of the above advantages over bottled water, they are of a different nature. Although all hydration bladders are primarily intended to provide easy and safe drinking water for travel, they can be divided into two categories.
Types of hydration bubbles for migration
In general, this manual discusses two types of hydration bladders: pressure and non-pressure bladders. However, by taking other factors into account it is possible to have different classes for hydration bubbles.
For example, we can use the size, shape and material to classify the hydration reservoirs. To learn more about the different types of hydration bubbles, read this article.
However, in the context of this article we will use the most obvious technology to have two major categories of hydration bubbles:
- Hydration bubbles under pressure
- Calling hydration without pressure
Frequently asked questions about hydration bubbles
How does the hydration bladder work?
The humidification bladder acts as a rubber bag or a water-filled bladder with a hose attached to it. The water flows in small sips through this tube and through the mouth valve. Moisturizing bubbles are often stored in a moisturizing backpack that you carry on your back for relief during intensive activities such as hiking, running, hunting, skiing and mountain biking. Only the snake enters the mouth, so the process is largely free.
How to fill the water bubble?
Slide the door shut and then use the kitchen tap to fill the bladder to about three-quarters. You should leave a little space to avoid spilling water when closing your bladder. For blowing with a removable lid, open the lid, hold it by the handle and fill the bladder with tap water.
In nature you may have to fill your bladder with water from streams and rivers. For screw-on bubble caps, there must be an accessory, such as a filling jug. Sliding closure bells allow water to be easily extracted from rivers and streams without the use of secondary accessories such as a jug.
Remember that the water must always be filtered and cleaned before use. This makes it easier for some bubbles to be compatible with small water filters such as the Sawyer Mini Water Filter.
How much water should I take with me in my backpack?
3 litres is ideal for a day trip with a backpack. Since the recommended daily dose for stress-free work is 2 litres, we think 3 litres should be more than enough to quench your thirst and refresh your backpack.
Most hydration bubbles are available in different sizes: 1 liter, 1.5 liter, 2 liter and 3 liter. You want to choose the size that best suits your business. Ideally, 2 litres of water is enough for one day of uninterrupted activity. Demand will increase as you engage in more intensive activities such as walking, running and cycling.
Why should I buy a drinking bladder?
If you like outdoor sports, you definitely need a bubble that brings you moisture. In fact, drinking bladders are no longer a luxury for backpackers, but a necessity.
Dehydration during prolonged activity is not only unpleasant but also dangerous to health. Dehydration due to severe and prolonged exposure leads to serious damage to the kidneys and consequently to other internal organs. Drinking bladders are therefore an indispensable and effective way to access clean and safe water during your active holiday.
How to use the bladder?
Depending on the type of bladder you choose, all you have to do is nibble and suck on the valve to enjoy or drink the water. However, if you use pressure bubbles, you do not need to suck. Just bite the valve and the water flows freely into your mouth.
How can I improve the taste of my bladder?
Most polyurethane bubbles give the water a plastic taste. To get rid of this taste, we recommend the use of soda. Pour about one and a half spoons of soda into your bladder and then fill it with warm water for about three quarters. Shake the contents and let everything rest for the next hour. Dry the contents, clean and dry your hydration bladder. The taste of the plastic must then disappear.
It should also be noted that the taste of the plastic, even if it is delayed for a while, will of course disappear after repeated use of the bladder. You’ll have to fill it up and empty it for a while before the flavoured van disappears completely.
Can I leave water in my camel (or other bladder)?
As a rule, hydration bubbles are not good containers for long-term water storage. Since you have to blow water from the hose into the tank after every sip, these bubbles will retain bacteria and fungal colonies if you leave the water in the tank for long periods of time. We therefore recommend emptying, cleaning and drying the bladder after each use and storing it in a safe place to avoid the risk of contamination by these organisms.
Do I need a drinking bag?
Yes, you need a hydration bag to store and transport your hydration bladder properly. The humidification bag not only makes your shipment portable, but also keeps the water cold, because some of the best humidification bags are well insulated.
How do I clean the hydration bladder?
There are many ways to cleanse your hydration bladder. Cleaning the hydration bladder is sometimes a great art, requiring a critical knowledge of its construction, the micro-organisms that tend to colonize it, and the type of pipe attached to it.
In general, the most important methods for cleaning the hydration bubbles are listed below:
- With baking powder or bleach.
- Use dental cleaner or effect pills.
- With lemon water or white vinegar.
- Use of a dishwasher (for the respective tubs)
To understand the above techniques in detail, read this guide to effective bladder cleansing through hydration.
Can I use my bladder in my spare time to carry other beverages?
Depending on the type of bubble, you can use an air bubble to bring a drink that will motivate you for your favorite outdoor activities. These can be energy or sports drinks. You should check the manufacturer’s advice on your bladder. However, these drinks create a favourable climate for the growth of bacteria and other micro-organisms and provide them with a source of nutrition. It is therefore important to thoroughly clean the bladder after each use of these drinks.
Finding the best bladder moisture for hiking, camping or other outdoor activities is not an easy task, but it doesn’t have to be that difficult.
